Magiciticy was
first conceived as a picture book, morphed into a children’s
book/novel, and finally evolved into a combination of both
elements. Once I started writing, I wanted the story of my
characters, Frankie, Pricilla, and Letrice, and their quest
to save New Orleans to live beyond the canvass.
I decided to develop the narrative
arc of my paintings but focus on a written story simultaneously.
The process allowed me to explore other creative realms, which
was exciting and personally rewarding. Over the years, people
would often ask me the meaning of my paintings. I've always
wanted the opportunity to clarify my artwork. I value individual
interpretation, but I also want to express the focus of my
work in my words.
I consider this series mixed media of two other creative
genres, visual arts and literary arts. I hope to expand it
to other creative media, such as a stage play, song, and
film.
Caliste most recently completed Magiciticy,
a whimsical series showcasing the beguiling nature of New Orleans
through the eyes of children based on of a fictional adventure
story.

In April 2009, I debuted my Magiciticy series at the Lois Lambert
Gallery in Santa Monica, CA. Click here to visit the gallery
